The Christmas Exchange and Recycle Frog Team Up to Host Gold Drive Fundraising Event

OTTAWA – January 21, 2010 – Recycle Frog, a next generation, direct-to-consumer precious metals recycling company with operations in Canada and the United States, today announced that the Christmas Exchange has selected Recycle Frog’s Gold Drive™ program to jumpstart their 2010 fundraising campaign. The first event will take place on Wednesday, January 27th at the City of Ottawa, a longstanding Christmas Exchange supporter. The Christmas Exchange will receive a percentage of every Gold Drive transaction with Recycle Frog matching contributions dollar-for-dollar.

“The Christmas Exchange has been a pillar of our community, delivering food and hope to needy families for almost 95 years. It gives us great pleasure to bring them our innovative concept and help reinvigorate their fundraising efforts,” said Matthew MacQuarrie, President, Recycle Frog. “The Christmas Exchange compliments a growing number of local and nationally recognized organizations, including the CHEO Foundation and the United Way Ottawa, that have chosen Recycle Frog’s Gold Drive fundraisers to boost their outreach and results.”

Gold Drives engage a more sophisticated consumer that would never consider going into a pawn shop or send their items by mail to a company they know nothing about. Recycle Frog fills a considerable gap in the market by providing an intelligent, transparent service that financially rewards individuals for selling their unworn and broken gold jewellery. This important recycling transaction simultaneously generates money for charitable and community-conscious organizations like the Christmas Exchange. For example, when considering today’s near record gold prices, typical payouts are approximately $385.00 in addition to a contribution of $54.50 made to the campaign. Both individuals and the Christmas Exchange benefit financially by choosing to participate in this rewarding recycling transaction.

“We’re thrilled to work with Recycle Frog to host our first ever Gold Drive fundraising event at the City of Ottawa,” said Marilyn Matheson, Executive Director of Christmas Exchange. “All employees located at 100 Constellation Cres. and adjoining Ben Franklin Place are encouraged to participate by gathering their unwanted gold, silver and platinum and bring it in for an expert evaluation. At these near record gold prices, a little goes a surprisingly long way. Everyone that participates will instantly find out how much their ‘stuff’ is worth and, should they accept Recycle Frog’s offer, will walk away with money in their pockets. What’s best is that every transaction will generate a contribution that goes directly towards helping people of need in our community.”

The Christmas Exchange Gold Drive will take place in the Lotus Room on Wednesday, January 27th from 9:00 to 3:00 at the City of Ottawa building located at 100 Constellation Crescent.

Media professionals interested in attending these events are encouraged to contact David Martinek at or by phone at (613) 695-1236 to arrange access or an individual interview.

About the Christmas Exchange
The Christmas Exchange of Ottawa is a volunteer driven organization headed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Since 1915, Christmas Exchange has been delivering food and hope to eligible families referred each year by churches, schools and social agencies — those who know the need first hand. We also provide a central registry to cross reference clients and avoid duplication. This way we are able to ensure that every dollar goes where it is truly needed — distributed evenly and fairly. The Christmas Exchange is completely funded through the generosity of our donors. The service provided our community is at no cost to the taxpayer or any level of government.
